Eva Margarita Moya

  • Eva Margarita Moya: Tuberculosis Divisional Director

Eva Moya is a native of the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez border region. She is a borderlander. Presently she is a Doctoral Student at UTEP Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD Program and serves as the Director Tuberculosis Division, U.S.-Mexico Border Health Association .

Eva has a Master of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at El Paso. With more than 23 years of professional experience in the U.S.-Mexico Border region, she was considered by Latino Leaders National Magazine in 1994 one of the top 10 Latinos in health care. Her expertise includes border, binational and cross-border health; health diplomacy; and migrant community health education, Community Health Workers / Promotores(as) de Salud Program implementation and evaluation; non-governmental organizations, health centers and academic institutions. From 2002-2005 Eva served as the Executive Director of the United States Section of the United States-Mexico Border Health Commission.

Eva served as a consultant for Project Concern International; El Paso Greater Chamber of Commerce, UTEP School of Nursing, and Mariposa Community Health Center where she worked on the development and field testing of the Border Women's Health Promotora Leadership Institute Curricula. In partnership with the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance and the Instituto Nacional de Psiquitria in Mexico she worked on the adaptation of Es Dificil Ser Mujer, Una Guia sobre Depresion y Genero to English and to Latinas. She served as consultant for the El Paso Greater Chamber of Commerce on the Health Council and is the TB Divisional Director of the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Association.

Eva is a Kellogg Fellow and a member of the Collaborative donating time, effort and ideas. From 1993 to 1998, she participated in the Kellogg National Leadership Program and conducted study travel throughout the world.

Eva serves on various advisory councils and community boards. Her most recent publication includes “Impact of Recent Laws and Policies on Mexico-origin Immigrants Access and utilization of Substance Use Treatment in El Paso County."
