Overview

The Binational Alliance of Border Coalitions is an umbrella organization that was created to coordinate and facilitate the increased awareness, prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance use and abuse and related problems along the US-Mexico Border.

The Drug-Free Communities Act (P.L. 105-20) was signed into law on June 27, 1997. The Act provides financial assistance and support to community coalitions to carry out the mission of reducing substance abuse among the nation's youth.

The Drug-Free Communities Act builds on the documented success of community anti-drug coalitions in developing and implementing comprehensive, long-term strategies to reduce substance abuse among youth on a sustained basis.
