PROMOVISION SERVICES

Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) services are delivered by PROMOVISION to strengthen Promotoras and other stakeholder HIV prevention skills utilizing two logical frameworks:

1. Individual Level

  • General knowledge of HIV testing and how to promote the use of testing services in a targeted community.
  • Stigma elimination skills to eliminate socio-cultural barriers to HIV prevention service utilization
  • Assessment skills (such as moderating focus groups)
  • Motivational skills to improve access to and utilization of prevention services, e.g., HIV testing

2. Community Level

  • Strategic Planning based on Planned Approach to Community Health (PATCH) or other models to organize community wide efforts to improve access to and utilization of HIV prevention services.
  • Network and coalition development.
  • Leadership
  • Community education to eliminate barriers and improve access to HIV prevention services and programs.
  • Community assessments (such as community readiness and community mapping).

To date , Promovision has provided technical consultation; trainings and workshops to more than 500 Promotoras, 50 CBOs, 15 local and state health departments and other community stakeholders. Our technical consultations, trainings and workshops are tailored to the needs of the community, organizations and individuals requesting CBA.

 

Promovision offers the following training workshops to strengthen basic skills and core competencies:

 

Curricula developed by the USMBHA

  • PROMOVISION Guide: Also called “A Guide to Strengthen the Capacity of Promotoras to Increase Access to and Utilization of HIV Prevention Services”. The curriculum has been designed with the participation of Promotoras among other community leaders and stakeholders. It was designed to enhance Promotoras capacity to become effective leaders to respond to the needs of Latinos/as through strategic planning and development of action plans that will lead to increasing access to and utilization of HIV prevention services by Latinos/as at high risk for contracting or transmitting HIV.
    The Promovision Guide training curriculum included modules designed to enhance Promotoras' skills on coalition building; leadership and community empowerment; effective strategies for community mobilization; development of action plans using the logic model as a tool; and how to use media to promote changes at the community level. It aims to be delivered either in English or Spanish in a three-day format but it can also be adapted to a one or two-day format based on the community training needs and available time.
